Prakriti Lamsal Case (VCU:MIT-02)

On February 16, 2025, the tragic death of 20-year-old Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, India, has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice. Lamsal, a third-year BTech student, was found deceased in her hostel room, with allegations surfacing that she faced persistent harassment and blackmail by fellow student Advik Srivastava. In response to these allegations, Srivastava has been arrested on charges of abetment to suicide. 

The incident has led to significant unrest both on the KIIT campus and internationally. Nepali students protested, citing institutional negligence and mistreatment, which escalated tensions and drew attention from authorities in both Nepal and India. In a move to honor Lamsal's memory and address the concerns of Nepali students, KIIT has announced a special scholarship in her name, aiming to support Nepali students pursuing education at the institute. 

This case has also prompted discussions in the parliaments of Nepal and Odisha, with lawmakers calling for thorough investigations and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Detective Information

A detective is an investigator, usually part of a law enforcement agency, who gathers facts and evidence to solve crimes. Detectives conduct interviews, analyze records, and follow leads to uncover the truth. They work on various cases, including theft, fraud, murder, and cybercrimes. Some detectives work privately, helping individuals or businesses with investigations, while others are part of the police force.

Pune Murder Case

 

On January 7, 2025, in Pune's Yerawada area, 28-year-old Shubhada Kodare was fatally stabbed by her colleague, 30-year-old Krishna Satyanarayan Kanojia, in their office parking lot. Both worked in the accounts department of a BPO firm.

The attack was reportedly over a financial dispute—Shubhada had borrowed around ₹4 lakh from Krishna, allegedly for her father's medical treatment. When Krishna later found out her father was healthy, he demanded repayment, leading to tensions. During an argument that day, Krishna attacked her with a kitchen knife.

CCTV footage showed several bystanders witnessing the incident but not intervening. Shubhada was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Krishna was later arrested by the police.
